When I first read about this tour, I was filled with excitement. A tour of Zürich, a boat ride across Lake Zürich, and a visit to the Lindt chocolate factory? It all sounded so amazing! But if I'm being honest, my heart was set on the chocolate factory. I mean, who can resist the allure of a chocolate factory? Unfortunately, the tour of Zürich was the first activity on the itinerary. And to my disappointment, it turned out to be a tour of the area where my hotel was located. I had already explored that area on my own on the very first day. During the tour, the guide would gather us in a huddle, making us the centre of attention in busy areas, and go on and on about the city's history. Some of us would get bored and wander off, only to be called back with a loud "can you hear me back there?" It was quite uncomfortable, but we tried our best not to appear impolite. I couldn't help but notice an older British gentleman who seemed to be dragged along by his wife. Their banter throughout the tour was hilarious, with him constantly grumbling and her telling him to stop.
From the moment we stepped onto the boat on Lake Zürich, I knew we were in for a scenic cruise. Surrounded by charming towns and the magnificent mountains in the distance, it felt like we were sailing through a real-life masterpiece. Our stop at the peaceful town of Kilchberg was a true delight. We strolled through mini parks, each designed for different activities, and witnessed families enjoying their time together and adorable old couples taking leisurely walks. It's funny how as we age, we start walking like toddlers again, finding joy in every step.
Then came the highlight of our trip - the chocolate factory. As a devoted chocolate lover, I was in heaven. The moment we walked in; we were greeted by a stunning sight - a tall, flourished chocolate fountain that was simply irresistible. It was the largest chocolate fountain I had ever seen, and it exuded an alluring charm. Exploring the rest of the factory was equally captivating. We learned about the fascinating journey of Lindt chocolate, from its humble beginnings to becoming a renowned industry leader. But the ultimate treat was when we were given a chance to taste the chocolate in various forms. It was an experience that left us craving for more. A truly unforgettable adventure for any chocolate enthusiast! We embarked on a chocolate-filled adventure at the Lindt factory, starting with what I like to call the "Chambers." Picture this: three liquid forms of Lindt chocolate - milk, white, and dark - poured into spoons. Yes, we cleaned those spoons with our tongues! Some people in the room were completely unaware of the techniques they were using to savour every drop of chocolate. It got a little weird but oh-so-funny as the inner child in all the adults emerged. Can you blame them? The chocolate was smooth, creamy, and incredibly rich. Just a few steps away, there was a tall structure that held a surprise. With my hand underneath, I gave it a gentle bop, and out popped a small square Lindor chocolate piece. The area was buzzing with people, their faces lighting up at the sight of such delicious chocolate. I have never seen so many people in one room, their excitement and sugar rush palpable.
The final room we entered was stunning. A massive, curved screen displayed the word "Lindor," and in front of it were dozens of circular tubs filled with every variety of those famous round Lindor chocolates. Some people couldn't resist and grabbed one of each, while others chose their favourites based on flavour. At first, I thought the man standing between the chocolates and the screen was a mannequin wearing a chef's hat. But to my surprise, he moved a few seconds later, and I realized, ‘Oh, he's real!’. I requested to take a picture with him.
Stepping into the Lindt gift shop felt like entering a chocolate lover's paradise. I spent a glorious twenty minutes exploring the shelves filled with giant Lindt whole nut chocolate bars and personalized giant Lindt chocolates. The variety of Lindt chocolate was simply overwhelming, with cute little baskets showcasing unique flavours I had never seen before. Although I couldn't buy much due to my trip to Dubai in a couple days, I couldn't resist picking up a few smaller bars. Instead of indulging in them myself, I decided to spread the joy by giving them to the hotel receptionists. Giving Swiss people Lindt chocolate feels like giving Asian’s rice - it's a beloved treat in Switzerland! To top off the experience, there was a delightful cafe at the Lindt factory. Imagine any dessert or drink, and they would add Lindt chocolate to make it even more heavenly. From milkshakes to waffles, ice creams to hot Lindt chocolate, every treat was a bullseye of deliciousness.
